Our aim in this course is to learn about linear algebraic groups, their classification, and their representation theory. We will follow the book of Humphreys (GTM 21).
The course is mostly aimed at graduate students but open for anyone interested. It assumes some basic background in commutative algebra and/or algebraic geometry.
Lecture notes will be provided and updated regularly. (A huge thanks to Zhu Ruizhi for taking typed notes!)
We meet in North 4-110 on Wednesdays 10:00 - 12:25.
Exception: October 7 is a holiday and substituted by October 10.
There will be two exams: The midterm one on November 4, counting 40%, and the final one on December 30, counting 60%.
Problem sheets can be handed in by email or personally during the lecture.
